12th Annual Statewide Family Conference
STARnet Regions I & III is collaborating with the Illinois Family Leader Collaboration for the 12th Annual Statewide Family Conference. The conference will be held in Peoria, Illinois on Saturday, April 7th from 9:00-3:00pm. This year, our featured speakers are “The Shut Up Sisters”, Gina Gallagher and Patricia Terrasi, co-authors of the best-selling parenting book Shut Up About Your Perfect Kid, A Survival guide for Ordinary Parents of Special Children. Gina & Patricia will speak about the frustrations, stigmas, joys, and challenges they face as parents of children with disabilities. Participants will learn how laughter can be a powerful coping technique; how to deal with insensitive people; how to get your children the services and the support they need; as well as how to see the joys and gifts in raising children with special needs.
