Navigating the world of Individualized Education Programs (IEP’s), 504 plans, and special education can be an overwhelming task for even the most seasoned parent. Understood.org strives to help take some of the confusion and guess work out of it.
The website offers many resources from how to begin IEP evaluations to ways of advocating for your child throughout the IEP process. There is a parent tool kit that includes: app search, parenting coach that you can tailor to your child’s needs, a simulator to see how it might feel to be a child with a learning disability in the classroom, as well as resources to help understand how to make decisions for your child. Along with the tool kit there are articles, blogs, and group chats with an expert to answer questions you have on specific topics.
Understood.org provides families a safe and informative site to gather information and understand the ins and outs of what can be emotional and confusing process.
