The Deepest Well: Healing the Long-Term Effect of Childhood Adversity

September 10, 2019 - 1 minute read

By Nadine Burke Harris, M.D.

The Deepest Well describes how Nadine Burke was instrumental in identifying the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) checklist through her work in creating the Center for Youth Wellness building in Bayview, a neighborhood located in San Francisco. This book tells her story from the beginning, when she started treating the community of Bayview at the local health center, to when she advocated and received funding to start the Center for Youth Wellness.  The book describes first-hand experiences of working with children experiencing multiple toxic stress factors and steps taken to prevent long term impacts that can happen when supports are not in place.  I highly recommend this book for those wanting more information on children from traumatic backgrounds and how to support these children and their families.
