By: Bridgette Towle and Angela Heape
Have you ever thought about what skills can be developed using plastic cups? Cup: A Vibrant Vessel of Learning and Creativity, provides us with an idea. Bridgette Towle and Angela Heape, tell the story of how an activity involving stacking cups, led to in-depth explorations of building, light, and color. As the children explored more with various ways to build with the cups, they developed questions, sketched building plans, and took photographs of their completed work. Families were invited into the experience, exploring and creating with cups at home and sending pictures and anecdotal notes to school. It is interesting to read the quotes throughout the book, as they helped to provide the reader with a better understanding of how the teachers and families supported the children in their exploration without taking it over. Check out this book and see the designs the young children were able to create using simple cups!
