Author: Scott Stuart

The author and illustrator of My Shadow is Pink, Scott Stuart, wrote this book for his son, and other boys who find their “shadow is pink.” While the book is about gender identity, which may be categorized as a LGBTQIA focus, the real focus is empathy, self-acceptance, and self-love. It teaches unconditional love and provides a starting point for gender diversity conversations.

One critique of the book is that it still categorizes “boy things” and “girl things” by stating the little boy liked “girl things” like pink and princesses. While the intent of the book is to achieve a wider acceptance of gender diversity, the socialized concepts of boy and girl items were still present.
