Big Bear, Small Mouse is a book that describes opposites using some familiar and not-so-familiar animals. The first opposite is “Small Mouse, Big Bear”, next comes “Slow Badger, Fast Hare”, and the animals continue. Using the animals to demonstrate the concept of opposites made me want to turn the page to see what animals and their opposites would be coming next. This is a repetitive book as well, so each time animals are added, the author repeats all of the animals that have entered the story. The combination of the simple, repetitive text and the colorful illustrations will help young children tell the story when they are not yet able to read the words.
Check out Big Bear, Small Mouse to explore and play with opposites and to find out what other animals are a part of the story!
