Description – This captivating presentation is targeted for all who work with young children with special needs in both inclusive and group settings. Learn how teacher-child relationships play a significant role in influencing young children’s social and emotional development, as well as how to encourage the intrinsic motivators that every child needs to find behavioral and learning success. Discover ways to promote motivators that every child needs to find learning accomplishments. We will also identify the need for building positive relationships for the successful promotion of democratic life skills. What if you could transform difficult behavior into a desire to learn? Kim shares practical, child-tested strategies you can use to overcome the challenges of behavior management in your classroom. Discover ways to promote the intrinsic motivators that every child needs to find learning success.

Lunch break: 1 hour beginning at 11:30am

Continuing Education – This training will provide 5 contact hours for the following:

  • Kim Hughes
    Delighted to be with you for your training, Kim Hughes is a Conscious Discipline® Master Instructor, a mother of two, a gammy to four, and a 30+ year veteran of education as both a former administrator and teacher of children birth through fifth grade. Garnering a passion for ALL children to succeed as well as an acute determination to empower children holistically, she discovered the power of Conscious Discipline while serving as an preschool educator in an inclusive mental health / school-based setting. It soon became her commitment to share its transformative and empowering message to as many children, parents, and educators as possible. A former North Carolina Teacher of the Year, she now conducts state and national-level presentations, mentors administrators, coaches teachers, and assists schools, agencies and programs in implementing Conscious Discipline to fidelity school-wide. Ms. Hughes has also worked with the PBS series of both Sesame Street and Danger Ranger as a curriculum developer and educational specialist and as a consultant for Teaching Strategies, Inc. Kim’s inviting, playful style creates memorable trainings, while her experience with Conscious Discipline is top-notch. “The hours flew by” is a common sentiment at her trainings as attendees are amazed by their own level of engagement and focus on the material. She lives in Wake Forest with her husband, Scott, and their two dogs, Stella and Katie.
