Helping Children Understand and Use Data – Graphs, Charts, and More, OH MY! (webinar)
Learning Level 1: Introductory/Awareness
Intended Audience – Teachers, Paraeducators, Early Childhood staff, Family Educators, Families
Description – This session will provide information on appropriate data collection for and by young children. Different ways to organize and display the information gathered will be explored. A variety of ideas will be shared on how to display data in a meaningful way. Strategies will be discussed pertaining to connecting probability vocabulary to situations and experience of young children. Modifications and accommodations will be addressed.
Continuing Education – This webinar will provide 1.5 contact hours for the following:
- Educator License Renewal
- CDA (Child Development Associate) credit in area(s) 2
- CE credit for SLP, SW, LCPC, PT, and OT professionals

Marc Baxter
Marc Baxter, B.S. Ed., is an Early Childhood Resource Specialist for STAR NET Regions I and III. He has been a preschool teacher for 14 years, working four years as a lead teacher at the St. Ambrose University Children’s Campus in Davenport, IA and then ten years as a lead teacher at the MacArthur Early Childhood Center in Macomb, Illinois. Marc has worked with a diverse population of students across many cultural, socioeconomic, and inclusive backgrounds. While in Macomb, Marc worked in a variety of committees dedicated to improving the school and district, including serving as a parent-teacher coordinator, team leader, union representative, and mentor teacher. He also worked with and instructed several students from Western Illinois University looking to complete field hours in the classroom. -
Sherial McKinney
Sherial McKinney, M.S. Ed., is an Early Childhood Resource Specialist for STARnet Regions I and III. She has taught and worked in the field of early childhood education for over 40 years. Sherial has taught Early Childhood Special Education in a self-contained setting and in a blended program with students enrolled in the Pre-K at Risk and Preschool for All programs. She has also taught Kindergarten, Title I Reading and Math for grades K-8, and in a federally-funded child care program. Sherial has provided staff development and training opportunities for teachers, support staff, administrators and family members at a variety of local, state, regional, and national conferences. She provides trainings on various topics such as Math, Literacy, Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards, Early Learning Scale Assessment, Work Sampling System-Illinois, and several other topics. -
Roseann Slaght
Roseann Slaght has worked as a Family Resource Specialist for STARnet for 23 years. Her goals are to embrace inclusive practices, and find ways to support each child in order to develop their full potential, and include parents as partners in the learning process. She is a parent of two adult men with significant disabilities. In her spare time, she is also a licensed Massage Therapist. Rose earned her degree in Child Development.
