IFLC Annual Family Conference: Resources and Inspiration for Adult Family Members and Caregivers of Children with Disabilities
Learning Level 1: Introductory/Awareness
Intended Audience – The Conference is for adult family members and caregivers of children (birth-21) who have developmental delays or disabilities.
Description – We have a cadre of presenters for this event. Elizabeth Frisbie will present the keynote on “Calm and Connection, our Protection” which is focused on trauma and mental health. Several breakout sessions will feature presenters on: Promoting Resiliency, Sensory Strategies, and What Parents Need to Know About Multi-tiered Systems of Support in Schools. Lunch will be provided and participants will have time with vendors and agencies that support individuals with disabilities. Children cannot be accommodated at the conference.
Continuing Education
This event does NOT provide any formal continuing education credit, such as CPDUs, CE credit, or EI credit. Certificates will not be issued.

Alaina Brooks
Alaina is a licensed Occupational therapist at Pattonville Early Childhood Educational Center. Throughout her career she has had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings ranging from early learners, low incidence rooms, and integrated classrooms. Alaina grew up attending STAR NET trainings and events which strengthened her desire to work in early childhood. Alaina lives in St. Louis with her husband Matt and pet family (4 dogs, 2 cats). One of her dogs is a certified therapy dog. -
Elizabeth Frisbie
Elizabeth Frisbie has worked with young children, their families and educators for over 25 years as a psychotherapist, behavior specialist, mental health consultant and parent educator. She holds masters degrees in education and clinical child/family psychology and the Infant/Early Childhood Mental Health Credential and is a certified parent educator. Elizabeth has completed advanced training in early childhood special education, play therapy and reflective practice. -
Marcie Huelsing
Marcie Huelsing is a multi-award winning Special Educator based in St. Louis, Missouri. She has nine years of teaching experience in diverse settings and capacities. Marcie began her career working with adults with disabilities and quickly became passionate about teaching foundational skills to individuals during their most significant period of development, early childhood. “Only with a solid foundation, can we reach our optimal potential.” Marcie has been a guest speaker at St. Louis University. She is a cofounder and Special Education Coordinator at Camp Jump Start, which is a summer wellness program for children aged 10-17. -
Brenda Lindsey
Dr. Brenda Lindsey is a Teaching Professor for the School of Social Work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is a former school social worker with 10 years of practice experience. Her teaching and research interests are focused on the role of the school social worker in Multi-tiered Systems of Supports in schools as well as best practices for supporting children with disabilities and their families. She is a SW professor at UIC, and focuses her work on MTSS.
