Transition from Early Intervention to Early Childhood Services: Roles and Responsibilities (webinar)

Learning Level 1: Introductory/Awareness

Intended Audience – Administrators, ECSE/General Educators, Paraeducators, Family Members, Family Educators, Psychologists, Social Workers, SLPs, OT/PTs, Early Intervention

Description – The Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Department of Human Services developed this standardized training to address the requirements of the federal law, Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) to ensure a smooth and effective transition process is in place for children and their families who will be transitioning from Early Intervention into Early Childhood Special Education. This training will cover requirements regarding timeline, role responsibilities, transition process meetings, state forms, as well as vital partnerships, collaborative relationships and positive strategies.

Continuing Education – This webinar will provide 3 contact hours for the following:

  • Educator License Renewal
  • CDA (Child Development Associate) credit in area(s) 6
  • CE credit for SLP, SW, LCPC, PT, and OT professionals
  • Gateways to Opportunity credit in area E (Org. ID# B40093, Event ID# )
  • EI Credit in the area of Families

Full participation is required to receive a certificate.

  • Maria Matticks
    Maria Matticks, RN, BSN has been a consultant/trainer with the Illinois Early Intervention Training Program (EITP) since 2003, speaking on a variety of topics related to Early Intervention (EI) throughout Illinois. She has also been a speaker as national and international conferences, and is often a guest lecturer for parent groups, nursing programs, and educational programs. Maria and her husband are parents of three children. Their twin sons participated in the EI program, and continued with early childhood services and beyond. Along with her personal experiences, Maria also has over 20 years experience in the EI field. She provided developmental therapy, nursing, parent liaison, and assistive technology services as an early interventionist and was also employed for several years by the Illinois Department of Human services in the Bureau of Early Intervention Services. When not busy with EI, Maria operates a business that provides incontinence services to children and adults with disabilities.
  • Cindy Moore
    Cindy Moore is currently the 0-3 Transition Coordinator for the Four Rivers Special Education District, covering 19 school districts in west central Illinois. She has over 20 years of experience in Early Intervention, including Service Coordination and Developmental Therapy. She also was a home-based teacher for Head Start. She has been providing trainings for Provider Connections, the Illinois Early Intervention Training Program and STARnet for over 10 years.
  • Sheila Yates
    Sheila Yates, M. Ed Early Childhood Administration, is an ECSE Family and Professional Development Specialist for STAR NET Regions I and III. She has experience teaching preschool as well as leading teams of early childhood professionals in community-based organizations. Sheila is passionate about providing resources and education to professionals and families on the impact that quality environments and relationships have on young children.
