Book Study: Prevent-Teach-Reinforce for Young Children: The Early Childhood Model of Individualized Positive Behavior Support (webinars and assignments)

Intended Audience – Administrators, ECSE/General Educators

Description – In this book study, we will read Prevent-Teach-Reinforce for Young Children: The Early Childhood Model of Individualized Positive Behavior Support and discuss the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) process for behavior support. This book focuses on the top tier of the Pyramid Model and will identify and walk through the process of several different supports, as well as different ways to collect data with fidelity. We will spend our time together reflecting on how these strategies can be used to set children up for success using prevention, teaching, and reinforcement to change and reduce challenging behaviors. Each registrant accepted into the book study will be provided with the book. The confirmation email will have detailed instructions for completing the first assignment which is due BEFORE the first meeting. The assignments, which account for a portion of the total continuing education hours, will include reading sections of the book and responding to questions set up in Moodle. They are designed to foster individual reflection and analysis of the content so that each member of the group feels ready to contribute to and benefit from productive meetings with the group.

Continuing Education – This webinar will provide 6 contact hours for the following:

  • Educator License Renewal
  • CDA (Child Development Associate) credit in area(s) 3
  • CE credit for SLP, SW, LCPC, PT, and OT professionals
  • Gateways to Opportunity credit in area E (Org. ID# B40093, Event ID# )

  • Bridget Meis
    Bridget Meis, M.S. Ed, is an Early Childhood Resource Specialist for STARnet Regions I & III. During her time with STARnet, she has presented on a variety of topics including: Apps and Assistive Technology, Social/Emotional development, Creative Curriculum, Teaching Strategies GOLD, Portfolios, Lesson Planning, Mathematics in Early Childhood, Science and Mathematics, STEAM and Family Engagement. Bridget has worked in the field of Early Childhood Education since 2003. She received her Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Illinois State University and her Master's degree in Early Childhood Education from Erikson Institute. Bridget has worked in a variety of early childhood programs with diverse groups of children from as young as six weeks old to children in fifth grade. Bridget has served children and families in private childcare programs and most recently with Head Start.
  • Cecilia Mintz
    Cecilia Mintz, B.S. Ed, is an Early Childhood Resource Specialist for STARnet Regions I & III. She has worked in Early Childhood since 2007. Cecilia has worked with a diverse population at Head Start. While working with Head Start she guided children with Project Approach. Cecilia worked at engaging families in their child’s education by encouraging their input on family goals involving their child. She collaborated with local education agencies on IEPs.
