2019 Preschool Inclusion Roundtables
Learning Level 2: Intermediate/Application
Intended Audience: Administrators, ECSE Educators, General Educators, Teacher Assistants, Family Members, Family Educators, Psychologists, Social Workers, SLP’s, OT/PTs
These regional meetings will provide a forum to meet with other districts, hear about various models to implement preschool inclusion, and learn from district representatives that have taken steps to implement plans to increase access to inclusive classrooms. You will have an opportunity to learn what is available to support your district’s inclusion efforts as you create or update your inclusion plan.
Continuing Education – This training will provide 4 contact hours for the following:
- Educator License Renewal
- CE credit for SLP, SW, LCPC, PT, and OT professionals
- Gateways to Opportunity Credit (area D)
Full attendance is required to receive a certificate.

Ann Kremer
Ann Kremer is the Project Director for Early CHOICES, whose mission is to increase high quality inclusive opportunities for young children. Ann has a masters of education in early childhood education. She has been working towards inclusive education her entire career as a provider, consultant and as a leader. Ann is committed to this work as a professional and also as a parent of a young man with Down syndrome who experienced inclusive education and continues to be an active participant in his community. -
Emily Ropars
Emily Ropars has worked in the field of early childhood education for 20 years. She worked as a developmental therapist and holds a type 04 with a special education endorsement. Emily’s career has spanned all early childhood settings: a Reggio Emilio inspired university lab early learning center, home visiting as a developmental therapist, early childhood special education teacher in rural Oregon, and Child Development Specialist for Head Start serving DuPage County. Emily started an inclusion program at a private school in Chicago, that is still operating and used as a model for the Archdiocese of Chicago’s inclusion initiatives. She currently is an LRE Specialist for Early Choices. -
Kristy Doan
Kristy Doan is a principal consultant in the early childhood division at the Illinois State Board of Education. She has worked as a speech-language pathologist and a special education administrator prior to her work with ISBE. -
Julie Schackmann
Julie Schackmann has an LBS I, a master’s degree in administration and post-graduate work at the University of Illinois in Special Education Leadership. Julie has worked as a consultant/coach for Project CHOICES/Early CHOICES for 25 years traveling the state supporting school districts to implement best practices in inclusion. Educating children and youth with disabilities in general education classrooms and the community has and continues to be her passion. Retiring in 2014, she continues working with Early CHOICES and as a Program Support Specialist with the Preschool Expansion Grant. In her personal life, she has an antique store and loves searching for antique treasures, enjoying time with four grandchildren, and gardening.
