Teaching Strategies GOLD: Introduction for Teachers (for Harlem SD)
Learning Level 2: Intermediate/Application
Intended Audience: Administrators, ECSE and General Educators, Teacher Assistants, Family Educators
IMPORTANT: This training includes a pre-webinar assignment (4.0 hours) that MUST be completed by August 4th to be able to join the webinars. More information will be included in your confirmation email. The training will be from 9-11am (2.0), and then 1-3pm (2.0) each day. There will be break from 11am-1pm. The contact hours for the training total 12.0.
This session is an introduction to Teaching Strategies GOLD Online, a web-based, developmentally-appropriate assessment system for children birth through 3rd grade. Through video clips, small group work, and facilitator led discussions, participants will explore the structure, features, and functionality of the tool and practice using it to follow the four-step assessment cycle which links assessment and curriculum to strengthen classroom practice and improve outcomes for children. By the end of the training, participants will have the basic skills needed to begin implementing Teaching Strategies GOLD Online.
PREREQUISITE: To be accepted to the Teaching Strategies GOLD training, registrants must have completed an introductory Creative Curriculum training (typically 12-hours) or a training on another research-based curriculum that has been aligned to the Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards.
REQUIREMENT: Have a laptop or tablet and the Objectives for Development & Learning book for the training. This is an online training and you will need to access the Teaching Strategies GOLD website. You will need to have your GOLD sign-in information with you for this training.
Continuing Education – This training will provide 12 contact hours for the following:
- Educator License Renewal
- CDA (Child Development Associate) credit in area(s) 7
- CE credit for SLP, SW, LCPC, PT, and OT professionals
- Gateways to Opportunity credit in area C (Org. ID# B40093, Event ID# )
Full attendance is required to receive a certificate.

Anna Owen
Anna Owen, M.S. Ed., is an Early Childhood Resource Specialist with STARnet Regions I & III. Anna has been involved in the field of early childhood since 2003. She received her Master’s degree from Western Illinois University in 2013. Her previous job titles include training coordinator, parent educator and preschool teacher. In her role as an Early Childhood Resource Specialist, she provides technical assistance and training to early childhood professionals and families. She is passionate about the arts and serves as the co-chair for the Creative Expressions Art Gallery that takes place biannually at the statewide Sharing A Vision conference. She provides professional development on a variety of topics related to curriculum, assessment, lesson planning, intentional interactions and much more. In her spare time, she enjoys photography and spending time with her husband and two young children. -
Emily Reilly
Emily Reilly, Early Childhood Resource Specialist with STARnet Regions I and III is a proven leader with 14 years of experience in early care and education. Emily has served in a variety of leadership roles in the field including master teacher, associate director, college instructor, trainer and IL AEYC board member. Emily presents on a variety of topics including anti-bias curriculum, project approach, inclusive practices, reflective practice, and portfolios. She is passionate about supporting adult learners in improving their practice, specifically when it comes to making sure all children and families feel a sense of belonging and community. In her spare time, she enjoys running, yoga, trying new foods, and hanging out with her family.
